Cyanotype is a photographic process invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, which was then used by Anna Atkins to illustrate her book British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions. Nowadays cyanotypes are more widely known as sun printing and is a non-toxic nature print process explored by children. Adding the unpredictable element of water & environment further expands this photographic process to create more spontaneous effects. Much of the blue in this piece was created by printing along the shoreline of Lincoln Park, capturing the waves of a passing ferry. My pieces all begin as several paintings of abstract color play in acrylic, cyanotype and rust on paper which are then torn apart to find new territories. I stitch my found landscapes together as an act of mending, trying to make sense of the shifting environmental impacts of climate change
